DecisionsFirst Modeler Tip #6 - Active Dashboards

Last Updated: Jun 07, 2015 09:52PM PDT
Dashboards are decision support systems but paradoxically their design does not usually consider decisions explicitly. Most designs are driven by user interface and information visualization requirements and by the underlying data models.

A dashboard design based on decision management provides a logical structure for going beyond information presentation to predictions and recommendations so users can progress from ‘what happened?’ to ‘what can happen?’, and on to ‘what action can be taken?’  Decision modeling provides a formal framework to design dashboards that link explicit decision making to the knowledge required for them.
Here is an example of a decision modeling for a decision-centric dashboard for application life cycle management.
