Objective

Last Updated: Nov 10, 2013 05:42PM PST

Objectives represent either business metrics or key performance indicators that are tracked every day to monitor business performance or specific business objectives to be achieved by a certain date.

When an Objective is created or edited, the basic details of an objective are displayed at the top of the edit column

  • A unique name for the objective
  • A rich text description of the objective that should include whether this is a metric or a business objective.

Besides this internal information, External Information can be specified

  • A View URL allows you to link to an external system where the objective can be viewed. Clicking on the View button will open the link in your browser.
  • If supported by your performance management system, you can specify an edit URL so that a user with suitable permission can link to the system and edit objective or metric. Clicking on the Edit button will open the link in your browser.

Objectives are impacted by one or more decisions. The decision impact list shows Decisions that are impacting this objective. These can be removed by clicking on the x and new ones can be added from the search column by dragging and dropping them into the list. Each row in this table can be annotated by clicking on the row and then one of the columns. You can specify the scale of impact (low, medium, high etc) as well as enter notes about the way in which the decision impacts this objective.

Objectives have an Organization Context too. If you have defined an organizational structure then it may well be that not all the departments, teams or roles in the organization care about a specific metric or business objective. Dragging organizations into this list identifies the ones that do care about this objective.
